Young Conductors Competition

The Young Conductors’ Competition is an integral part of the 8th International Choir Festival and Competition dedicated to Lithuania’s Music Patriarch Juozas Naujalis.

On April 11 at 10:00 a.m., the 4th Juozas Naujalis Young Conductors’ Competition will take place at Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium.

The competition brings together young musical talents from music and art schools across Lithuania that prepare future choral conductors. Its aim is to promote professionalism, strengthen conducting traditions, and inspire the younger generation to pursue this meaningful and creative musical profession.

The conductors will be evaluated by an international jury: Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch (Poland), Aira Birziņa (Latvia), and Toomas Voll (Estonia).

The participating young conductors come from Kaunas Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium, Klaipėda Stasys Šimkus Conservatory, Kaunas Aleksandras Kačanauskas Music School, Klaipėda Eduardas Balsys Arts Gymnasium, Kaunas Boys’ Choral Singing School “Varpelis,” and Panevėžys Vytautas Mikalauskas Arts Gymnasium.

In the second round, the best-performing young conductors will have the opportunity to work with the Juozas Naujalis Gymnasium Youth Mixed Choir “Cantica,” led by artistic director and conductor Rolandas Daugėla.
