6th International Juozas Naujalis choir festival and competition 2023

 

this year, 16 choirs from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and the Czech Republic will participate in the choir festival and competition. At the opening concert of the festival on April 21st 7:00 p.m. will hear three festival participants in concerts in the Basilica of the Apostles Peter and Paul: chamber choir “Ondrašek” from the Czech Republic (conductor Josef Zajiček) and two choirs from Lithuania “In Vivo Dei” and “Popule Meus” (conductor Ramūnas Baranauskas).

April 22 in the choir competition, choirs will compete for the best choir prize – a replica of Juoz Naujalis’ baton. In the competition with a compulsory program, the choirs will perform one work of J. Naujalis, assigned according to the category, for the performance of the piece, an additional special prize will be awarded, which was established by the Juoz Naujalis Music Gymnasium. Choirs will be judged by an international commission: Eriks Ešenvalds (Latvia), Linas Balandis (Lithuania) and Anna Moniuszko (Poland). In the evening, after the competition, the choirs will participate in a concert in the Raudondvaris church and visit the Juoz Naujalis monument.

April 23 the festival will be closed by the joint St. Mass and concert at Kaunas St. In the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Vytautas the Great). In honor of the memory of Juoz Naujalis, after the mass, the choirs will perform several works by the composer.
